National Geographic 'Diggers' TV Show Returns

After a brief hiatus the team of Tim Saylor and George Wyant are back on the National Geographic Channel with new episodes of their 'Diggers' show. When the show first premiered the duo had been criticized by Archaeologists and organizations around the country who said that they encouraged and glamorized looting of American archaeological sites.

The show was apparently a hit in the ratings, however National Geo obviously stepped back and did some soul searching and it is a good bet that they did some retooling to calm these boys down, and put them on the right path to satisfy the archaeological community as well as other groups.

Check out the upcoming shows.

  2. I like shows like Diggers but Tim and George are beyond "GOOFY". They act like grade school kids at recess. Very unprofessional. A complete turnoff.

  3. Yes, beyond "Goofy" and "very unprofessional".....that's exactly why it's a great show and fun to watch. Do you want to watch an hour of someone quietly walking a field with headphones on ?

  4. These guys are an embarrassment to the hobby. The goofy nicknames for all of the items dug, the behavior after finding something, ext. I've been in this hobby for 29 years, and feel all these guys are doing is showing others what not to do. They talk about the actual value of items, and don't show proper ways to dig and recover.

  5. There is a benefit to shows like this. They get people interested in the history of what these guys are looking for. Not everyone that watches this show is going to run out and dig up historical artifacts with a $50 Walmart metal detector. I was born and still live in Virginia which is literally covered with historical areas and never took more than a passing
interest in it except what I learned in school. While watching diggers I learned some things about the area they were in that surprised me and spent the rest of the evening on the internet learning about what actually took place at Brandy Station. Also most of these sites in Virginia are protected from people using metal detectors and digging.
Yes these two guys are goofy acting but that is the show side. they are also very knowledgeable of the history they are exposing. And don't be fooled by the "Archeological Taliban", everyone involved in unearthing artifacts is in it for the money.

    1. This show is great. It's really gotten me into having fun with my metal detector. It makes you think..I wonder what's under there? They are a bunch of goofs that are having fun. Not immature, just trying to keep their hobby fun. Who cares the worth of things. Just finding something that someone else put there how ever many years ago is fun! I would watch this over Honey BooBoo anyday!

  9. These guys are a joke... Unfortunately, they aren't funny. It's incredible how the go off like a kid finding an Easter egg... And then to realize it was all over a round ball, a bullet, or a coin worth less than $20.00!
They are probably not acting either, they really get all about it... So immature!

And then there's that voice (George), refuse to call him king! Finally, the silly, stupid ass nicknames they try to coin... No pun intended.

  10. They are entertaining, Just wish KG would calm down a touch.
Unlike the other Digging show, When these guys pull something out of the ground most of the time it has dirt on it.

  11. their actions reflect upon all in the hobby, to those who we need to get permission from. if this were a job interview, would YOU hire those guys?

    1. Hell NO, wouldn't hire these guys to push a wheel barrow!!!

    2. Hell no, they are an embaresment to the hobby. After three shows I refuse to watch, and pray that when I try to get the OK from a land owner that they havn't seen it. Please Nat Geo, dump these guys and give our hobby the respect it deservse! George is a freaking IDIOT and the other guy isn't much better.

  14. Easy folks, I'm sure they are put up to the showmanship by the producers. Just look at most of these reality shows. Do you really think loggers are as dumb as they appear? Do you think moonshiners really exist on TV and not arrested? Do you think Chumly is really that dumb, well maybe. I enjoy the history and love my detector. I find myself envious of there opportunities.

  15. This could be a very interesting show if these two guys actually didn't act and talk like idiots. Who talks like that? If that guy says baby one more time, I'll explode. Can't watch it because of the way they talk and act stupid. I mean, crawling thru a dog house. Really????

  16. This show should be an embarassment to National Geographic. It's way below their standards!

  17. Enjoy the show but wish they'd show more stuff than coins all the time. Don't they find other stuff?

    ReplyDelete
  18. Love the show , love the cool stuff they find, hate the hosts!

  19. Does anyone know what kind of Detectors they use on the show? I am interested in buying one, but dont know the brand name? Any help? Thanks

  20. Great show. Funny how some think that KG and the Ringmaster are a joke. They are a couple of guys that not only educate but have a great time doing it! Guess there are some who would rather watch reality television that devalue the morals of this country. I say to them don't watch this show then. All others continue to give these guys respect and encouragement. They may not be trained professionals, yet their is something to be learned from what juice they find in the hole!

  21. The show is a good concept and would be watchable with another couple of hosts. These idiot guys and this show remind me of Pee-Wee's playhouse but with metal detectors.

  22. A really great show. This is a show that not only brings in the history of the country, it shows that metal detecting can be fun, entertaining and something a family can do together. If you took the time to look at the ATC website, you would see that they are regular guys, that respect the "sport" (just look at their ethics page) and are promoting metal detecting in a fashion the NatGeo directs in order to entertain a larger audience. A good lesson in life - don't take it too seriously.

  23. There sure seems to be a lot of critical watchers of this series. If I felt the way they do I wouldn't be watching the show, much less making comments about it. You just need to lighten up and enjoy the show.

  24. Treasure hunting makes for a great show. It's something that captures everyone's imagination. It's a shame it has to be ruined by two idiots who belong on Scooby Doo. Can't the network find normal people? They make Savage look like a Rhodes scholar. I watched an episode an an half and had enough.

  25. I love the enthusiasm they project and the history of the antiquities they discover! They are both fun loving and kind and respectful of their locations

  26. Wow! I would relish the opportunity to provide tissues to the majority of crybabies in this forum. Critisism is the sincerest form of flattery. Jealous, are we ?

  27. I watched the first episode and thought them acting like that was just a one time thing. After watching the second one I refuse to watch it. If they were to find petrified dog shit the would probably have a heart attack, or try eating it as the roll around acting like they found Jimmy Hoffa

  28. We en joyed watching the show very much, although the acting was a bit hyper, we would still watch it. The only problem is we cant find it any more....has it been discontinued?

  29. I for one don't see any harm in showing two grown men having fun and enjoying it. With Honey Boo Boo and garbage like that making the cut regularly in real TV, I would think that these two could be allowed a little exuberance and fun. Lighten up a little and just remember that even you were a kid once. What's the harm in that?

  30. One of the very best shows on t.v. There's always some do-gooder, uptight, nose in the air, bureaucratic, snob that just has to criticize everything and anyone.

  31. I'd like to see Diggers visit Joplin, Missouri. Home to the famous Bonny and Clyde shoot out site.

  32. Wow! What is wrong with people. There just having a little fun. There bringing excitement and life to history. Yes, history should be important to us all. But should we treat it like were dealing with a life or death situation in a court of law. history should inspire us. Make us think. Make us appreciate the past and the present. Having a balanced view of respect and enthusiasm is the key. I think people from the past would have loved to know that there lost items are bringing joy to people in the future. I know I would. I think the diggers show has that balance view. We should be thankful for all the joy and history the show has given us.

  33. This is a great show. I really enjoy it. This is a guy thing! God put men on the earth to do goofy stuff. They are simply being true to their nature, and it is a real joy to watch them. I totally relate to it. I wish I was there with them having that much fun. Love it!

  34. once again a few people complain and the rest of us that enjoy the show are left without a show we enjoy. Unless I missed it they always asked permission and made a point to make sure other people detecting do the same, also made a point about digging as small a hole as possible and filling it in when done. They also had their archaeologist Along to document the finds and location. What a wet blanket the detractors are.
