2022 Archaeology Programs Update

Buy the gift of an unforgettable experience. Have a loved one (or yourself!) join us on one of our 3-day or week-long public archaeology programs. We divide our programs by type: Locate, Excavate, Analyze, and Reconstruct.

Locate

Spend three-five days learning and doing different archaeology survey techniques. From  mapping and recording natural or archaeological features through hands-on experiences to metal detecting and its use in finding historic sites. 

Woods program March 3-6

Metal Detecting November 13-18



Analyze
Spend five days in our lab program to learn how we conserve, curate, and conserve archaeological findings; or join us for a special three-day program to see how the ages-old relationship between people and wine can be informative... and tasty!
Lab program March 13-18
Wine Program May 5-8

 

Excavate

Over the course of a week, participants will be immersed in the archaeological process and spend four days excavating on our active archaeology site and an entire day in our archaeology laboratory.

Early October program October 2-7

Late October program October 23-28 



Reconstruct
In this program, participants will use 19th century techniques to construct tables and chairs for the cabins in the domestic slave living area in the South Yard, as well as traditional hearth cooking.
